316 stainless steel is a molybdenum-containing austenitic alloy known for its exceptional corrosion resistance, particularly in harsh environments such as marine settings, industrial emissions, and chemical media. This is primarily due to a stable passive film that forms on its surface, effectively preventing oxidation. Additionally, it is recyclable, supporting environmental sustainability.
316L is the low-carbon variant of 316, offering superior resistance to intergranular corrosion. It maintains excellent oxidation resistance at high temperatures, stable for intermittent use below 1600°F and continuous use below 1700°F. Although continuous use is not recommended within the 800°F to 1575°F range, 316L stainless steel bar demonstrates good heat resistance outside of this temperature range. Its applications span various industries, including seawater equipment, chemical processing, and dye manufacturing.
